Gates Foundation funds new Durable Medicine Model Unit

Tulane received nearly $1 million from the Gates Foundation to establish the Durable Medicine Model Unit at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center, with Amir Ardeshir as unit leader.
The unit provides standardized studies for Gates Foundation partners, combining laboratory assays, computational tools, and nonhuman primate models to shorten the path from laboratory to clinic for long-acting medicines against infectious diseases while reducing animal use.
During its first year, the unit will support three different research initiatives.
